The Capital City - Autheuil (5/6/08)

Postby Adrian on Fri Jun 06, 2008 1:47 am

The Nine Hills of Autheuil were established under Emperor Faramond's reign in order to both settle claims with the bordering villages/towns and to further extend his vanity. Ityma hill, Evermore hill, Acrypto hill, Hatil hill and Nymea hill were the original regions belonging to the city. Later the Emperor extended the city to the other regions, the first being Imperial hill which the Emperor bought in order to build his new palace, Laul Cahal, on it. He then adopted Farough hill and reluctantly Juvau hill. He finally claimed the last hill and it was dubbed Green hill because the rich green grass that grew there. The hill, however, has remained practically untouched for various reasons. Thus with this addition the number of Hills was brought up to nine symbolizing the nine provinces of the Empire and their prosperity.

1. Itymna hill: leisurely, free of urban messes
2. Farough hill: one of the guard hills bordering Autheuil (West)
3. Hatil hill: guard hill looking over riverside/sea (East)
4. Imperial hill: highest hill to the north housing the Emperor and his royals
5. Juvau hill: dubbed 'Outcast Hill', it begins the fertile, rural land of Autheuil
6. Nymea hill: one of the lowest hills, it is ideal for the residential
7. Evermore hill: a rocky and more natural hill, it has been used for mining and rock climbing
8. Acrypto hill: part rural, part urban, a get away hill of Autheuil
9. Green hill: still under construction (though no one knows for what), this hill remains vacant, unused, but claimed by the city.

Aside from the hills, the land in between The Nine is (more or less) at sea level and has quickly been turned into the busiest and most concentrated of areas of the city.

A. Autheuil Center
The 'downtown' of the city, Autheuil's center place includes all the urban essentials and luxuries. Here is where the classes mix and everything seems normal. Practically everything happens here.

B. Water District
Essentially the first defined district of Autheuil, it has lost popularity to Autheuil Center. Here the docks are accompanied by the shops and residential zones.

C. Old Autheuil
Originally the first middle class zone of Autheuil, it has secluded itself to a nice living area where the 'uppers' enjoy living away from the royals and 'lowers'.

D. Entering
Since those on land usually enter from the south, this portion of the city is concentrated on those that don't wish to stay too long: the trading suppliers, travelers, mercenaries, etc.

E. Back Bay
A hospitable community within Autheuil that shares the guardians of Parthia with the contributors of Parthia, ie. the knights and the farmers. The River of Aline runs through Back Bay and dumps into the ocean after passing through the Water District.

F. Outlies
The most west and farthest away from the river is this community of poor citizens that, as the more north you get, turn to farmers and smiths and such.

[Important Places in the City of Autheuil]

Amphitheater – A large open air building constructed out of stone and a steely, black metal called zallainium. The Amphitheater is host to all sorts of contests and spectacles that will dazzle the eye and thrill the heart. Located in the southern half of Autheuil it draws thousands of people a year.

Autheuilian Crypts – The Autheuilian Crypts stretch under the northwestern half of the city and roughly measure 100 acres across. Residents of the city rarely descend into its depths, but when they do it is to tend to their relations tomb or go about esoteric, sometimes malicious deeds. The crypts are popular with those who don’t want to be noticed.

Baths of Laurivona – The Baths of Laurivona are a great place to get clean, gossip, and exercise. It is composed of hot and cold rooms along with a large swimming pool as well as an exercise room.

City Prison - The City Prison is where people go when they haven’t paid money and are in debt, especially to the government. Rarely are people imprisoned for thievery, instead they might loose a hand or two. Those who murder will be put to death by a jury of peers.

Copper Stallion Tavern - The Copper Stallion is just one of many taverns in the city, however, it is well-known for its superb hospitality and good food. Note that drunks are not accepted by society, as the fruit of the vine makes a fine bred man into a barbarian.

Imperial Zoo – The Autheuilian Zoo is filled with exotic animals from all around the world. In order to get to the Zoo, one must enter through the Hanging Gardens.

Itymna Hill - Itymna Hill is one of the nine hills of Autheuil. Come here to soak in the sun, practice your martial arts moves, recite beautiful words to a lover under a shade tree, or meet some new interesting people.

Laul Cahal - Laul Cahal is Emperor Faramond Nicolasl’s spacious palace. Created for the second emperor of Partha its beauty, magnificence, and price is second to none.

Marketplace - A huge open air, outdoor market divided into sections pertaining to things such as foods, clothing, embellishments, jewelry, and livestock. Here everything is always for sale. Need a good horse or mule to go on a long journey? Get it here. Food is always cooking and so the smell always drifts entirely through the market.

The Docks - The Docks are where all ocean going ships and boats come into port; returning either from a daily fishing trip or from a five year trading tour around the world. Pirate ships are not welcome in its waters, however if you’re a pirate you will find haven in the small fishing and trade town of Blackmoor15 miles southerly.

The Hanging Gardens - The Hanging Gardens and Imperial Zoo were once apart of Laul Cahal, but around twenty years ago they were opened to the public to enjoy. The Hanging Gardens and zoo together cover over 400 acres of land. There are large green lawns, marble statues of past rulers and legendary heroes, dazzling fountains, looking pools, and huge pillars with flowering plants draping down and adorning their tops.
