Races (14/5/08)

Postby Adrian on Thu Mar 06, 2008 8:24 pm

Tel'avara

playable

Subgroups: Elf (Aes sidhe), Drow (Daoi-sith); Human (Dyn)

General

Name: Aes sidhe
Life Span: 350 years
Age status: Child, Teenager, Adult
Average height: 5’7-6’4
Average build: Slim to medium
Family structure: Nuclear
Language(s): Cuchiogtafod, Halen (Common), Seren iaith

Description

Physical: The aes sidhe are a tall, beautiful race that is found throughout for-osna ul úir as well as the other surrounding continents. Their physical attributes tend to vary according to vary according to region. For instance, aes sidhe from the northern regions for-osna ul úir usually have fair complexions; light colored eyes, and blond, red, or light golden brown hair. As one travels more southerly down the continent features tend to darken from olive to ebony tones. However, these attributes do vary especially since the Parthian Empire came into power and connected once isolated regions of the continent.

Disposition: The aes sidhe tend to be somewhat haughty secluding themselves into clans and families of their own. However, other aes sidhe get along well with other races such as the dyn, bachod, and menezfólk. Aes sidhe are well-known for their wisdom and knowledge of the earth but if they are aware of such things they are less likely to dispense it to strangers. They are slow to make friends and enemies, and even slower to forget them.

Relations: Tend to have similar cultural traits to the other races living in their region. It is believed that the aes sidhe and the dyn share a common ancestor, as well as sharing a common ancestor with the bachod and menezfolk. There is no real racism among the Tel'avara and/or the Tel'otah.

Religion: There is no standard aes sidhe religion but they tend to subscribe to the religion of their ancestors, a religion similar to what the dyn now practice. Eteos, the king god, is found most commonly throughout the different regions.

Strengths: Aes sidhe can go days without eating or drinking and they do not tired easily during rigorous activity. They are also not as susceptible to harsh environmental conditions such as extreme cold or heat.

Weaknesses: Aes sidhe are not as strong as some other races and must rely on swiftness and wit. They also can be afflicted by vampirism and lycanthropism.

Organizations: Hwyliog llaw (Silver Hand), Golau-leuad tylwyth (the Moonlight Clan)

General

Name: Daoi-sith
Life span: 360 years
Age status: Child, Teenager, Adult
Average height: 4'9-5'4
Average build: Slim to curvy
Family structure: Nuclear
Language(s): Halen (Common), Diffuant Iaith, Tywyll llafar (Daoi-sith speak this more commonly).

Description

Physical: Daoi-sith tend to be much shorter than their aes sidhe brethren due to the fact that they live in subterranean environments where it is beneficial to be small. They tend to have dark obsidian colored skin with brilliant white hair. They all born with light brown to dark brown eyes; however, many choose to modify they bodies and turn their eyes a dark red blood color. Occasionally, a daoi-sith will be born with light olive colored skin and light brown hair. These daoi-sith are usually killed at birth or else they become pariahs of their community for their entire live. They are known as shu sith, an extremely derogatory word directed toward those who are half daoi-sith or those who do not truly look like a daoi-sith most commonly would. It must also be noted that male daoi-sith are smaller than female daoi-sith as well as weaker physically.

Disposition: Daoi-sith are known for their malicious tendencies and conniving natures. They are not purely evil as most say; however, they are a society that values deception as well as power. Living life among the daoi-sith is not easy and despite their long lives it is quite common for a daoi-sith to be murderer by a rival at a young age rather than die due to age related illnesses.

Relations: Somewhat amicable with the aes sidhe, dyn, bachod, and menezfolk and share a common ancestor with them. Younger daoi-sith tend to have a more progressive view of these other sub-groups occasionally living temporarily on the surface with them, where as, older daoi-sith are found to be set in their ways and will have nothing to do with those who dwell on the surface. Daoi-sith tend to keep more to themselves and live in monocultures when compared with the other Tel'avara races and the Tel'otah which are often found living amongst each other.

Religion: Daoi-sith worship Aes the goddess of war, death, ravens, fertility, and fate. However, they also worship other demi-gods that are too countless to mention here. Those daoi-sith/half daoi-sith which are ostracized for the community most often turn worship of Parthian gods such as Nerra, Chole, Ierae and others.

Strengths: Daoi-sith are quite stealthy and they are very nimble when it comes to quick silent movements. Daoi-sith have incredibly strong grips and it is said that when a daoi-sith gets you in its grasp you will never break free. Daoi-sith can also see in very dark conditions while they also have highly attuned hearing.

Weaknesses: Daoi-sith are extremely vulnerable to light and while they may be able to sustain themselves in it for a while they must always retreat back into the shadows. Nevertheless, immunity to the sunlight’s affects may be built up over the years. They can be afflicted by vampirism and lycanthropism.

General

Name: Dyn
Life span: 75 years
Age status: Child, teenager, adult
Average height: 5’4-5’9
Average build: Slim to curvy
Family structure: Nuclear
Language(s): Halen (Common), Seren Iaith, Diffuant Iaith

Description

Physical: Dyn physical phenotype varies much like that of the aes sidhe. Those of the northern regions have light complexions where as the more south one goes the darker in appearance they may become. In fact, on occasion, the only physical difference between a dyn and an aes sidhe is the slope of the ear.

Disposition: The dyn can often be quite arrogant, self-serving, and malicious; however, they can be compassionate and kind. If it is one thing the dyn are known for it’s their very diverse dispositions.

Relations: Amicable with the aes sidhe, bachod, and menezfolk and share a common ancestor with them. However, kinship and blood alliance will take president over any relation with any one of the other races.

Religion: Most dyn tend to subscribe to the religion of Parthia but others worship different gods from outside the pantheon. Still more dyn believe in animism where as others find refuge in philosophy and do not worship any gods.

Strengths: Dyn are very resourceful and crafty. They tend to be the most resourceful and progressive of the races. Also their physical diversity is a great strength when it comes to the entirety of the race.

Weaknesses: Dyn can often be very self-serving and vindictive. They also can be afflicted by vampirism and lycanthropism like their cousins the aes sidhe and daoi-sith.

Tel'metamorphica

non-playable - contact Selene if you're interested in role-playing one of these races

Subgroups: Ilendraian, Rak

General

Name: Ilendraian or Ninniach Hin (used interchangeably)
Life span: Unknown, at least 1,500 years
Age status: Child, Teenager, Adult
Average height: 5’8-6’2
Average build: Medium
Family structure: Nuclear
Language(s): Halen (Common), unnamed native tongue

Description

Physical: The Ilendraian posses two forms. They are born in their “birth form” and later develop their “ascendant form”. Their birth form looks very similar to that of the aes sidhe; however, they tend to differ in the length of their ears. Aes sidhe have quite long pointed ears (about an inch large than a normal dyn’s ears) where as the Ilendraian have normal sized ears with a slight point. Ilendraian tend to have quite light skin and bleach blond to dark brown hair. Their eye colors may be blue, violet or green but it is not unheard of to have a child with deep brown eyes. When a young adult has reached a certain age they are then able to shape shift into one animal form which describes them. They do not decide this form, rather it chose them. Those that are swift and steadfast may be able to take the form of the horse where as those who are loyal, fierce, and yet shy may have the form of a wolf. Colors of their ascendant form vary; nevertheless, most are an unearthly shade of white.

Disposition: The Ilendraian are a very peaceful people and tend to get along with many other races that they come into contact with. Since their numbers are very small, numbering only about eight hundred, every Ilendraian knows of or knows those belonging to their race. To prevent rapid decline in their genetics, a few Ilendraian have developed relationships with others outside their race marrying dyn, aes sidhe, and even Tel’anima.

Relations: The Ilendraian separated themselves socially from the other races of the earth a few thousand years ago; however, a few remained in these societies and continued to influence (if only marginally) the direction these people headed. This subgroup was called the Silent Keepers and they possessed the ability to take many forms (not just the two of their predecessors). They sought to aid those around them and to guard them from evil. Silent Keepers are revered by the rest of the Ilendraian race; however, they are also kept at arms length because of fear that they are too powerful and will lead to destruction of the Ilendraian society.

Religion: The Ilendraian do not worship any god in particular rather they subscribe to an esoteric philosophy which has yet to be written down by an outsider.

Strengths: Have the ability to morph into one animal; however, this ability has to be learned and developed before the one form is 'found' when they come of age. They are also very intelligent and strong both physically and mentally. The Ilendraian are known for their technology, especially when it comes to steam power and have created many machines which aid their daily lives. They, however, are very careful about concealing this knowledge and most of their machines are disguised as pseudo-mundane things.

Weaknesses: The Ilendraian are few in number and continue to dwindle in population size. Not too many other weaknesses are known but some complain that the “Ilendraian way” is too conservative and stagnant.

General

Name: Rak
Life span: Males: 600 years Females: 900 years
Age status: Child, adult
Average height: 6’0-6’7
Average build: Muscular, Robust
Family structure: Clan oriented
Language(s): Halen (Common), Copyngair

Description

Physical: The rak tend to be quite robust and muscular since they are a race of fighters and there are rarely members who are scrawny in phenotype. Those who are born as such are usually eaten just after birth unless they show promise in some other area of rak society. Male rak have strong builds with dark black hair, dark brown skin and eyes with a sharp jaw line with a prominent nose and thick lips. Female rak tend to be lighter in complexion and they are more slender than their male counterparts; however, females are much more powerful and long lived.

Disposition: The rak function as a clan with one alpha female and beta male serving as the leaders of the group. While there are very few females, they have greater distinction than the males and you will never find a lower class female within their society. Although the rak are a very intelligent race, lesser rak will follow their leader without question regardless of the issue. The rak are quite a serious, militaristic race.

Relations: Amicable with the Ilendraian and mortal enemies of the lapu-kino. Other races are not aware of their existence.

Religion: All rak submit to their creator god Chole, god of vitality, poisons, and insects. They have many complex rituals involving the worship of their god and only a few outsiders have seen these rituals preformed.

Strengths: Rak are known for their sheer brute force and for their golden venom which can either kill or heal a person depending upon what the rak chooses. The poison is always deadly to a lapu-kino as it can be infused with human weapons or injected into the victim by their scorpion stinger.

Weaknesses: The Rak are weak because their society is very homogonous and militaristic. There is no room other things in life. There are also very few rak and because of this their numbers can be decimated quite quickly by crafty adversaries.
