How do I get started role-playing?
It is quite simple, but to those unfamiliar with the setup of our forum, it may be a bit strange to work with. Simply go the the main forums, a link to which can be found on the right side of this page, and click on the register button near the top of the page. This will lead you through the process of getting an account on our forums. From there, you will able to post on the site. Start with introducing yourself here, and from there, move on to create a character using the sheet found under Character Profiles. Feel free to contact us at any time by sending us a PM (Private Message), which can be done by finding one of our posts, and clicking on the PM button at the bottom of said post.
How do I go about creating my character?
See this link to help you get started creating your character and remember you're describing a character others know little about so make your description thorough and concise.
Does my character have to be a race you have listed or can I use my own?
Yes, you can use your own race but you have to describe it enough that other members will be able to grasp at its qualities. Don't simply put that your character is a such-and-such from so-and-so with magical/strength abilities of this-and-that. Give us fairly developed details of culture, religion, and geographical background. This does not apply to lesser known races developed in games like World of Warcraft or Everquest. All you have to do for these races is tell us where you got the idea from and give us a link to the description of the race.
How is a character's strength and power determined?
Your character's strength and power are determined solely by you. This does not mean that your character can go about killing other member's characters or possess god-like abilities. Your character must be flawed and may only posses up to two special powers.
What is the difference between a characters class and occupation?
Unlike the classes you will encounter in other role-playing games our classes have to do with your character's rank in society. These being lower, middle, and upper. Also keep in mind that there were few people of the middle class, more of the lower, and even less of the upper class. Occupation has to do with what your character does for a living and therefore contributes to your character's skills, abilities, and personality. So for instance if your character is a sword smith they might have great knowledge of metals and sword use/swordplay. Class greatly affects your character's outlook on life so choose it wisely.
I created my own kingdom, story, etc can I use it?
Yes, go right ahead. However, please be sure to prove us with a complete description of the place as it pertains to your character. When role-playing on the Nocturnal Reverie forum you can either choose to have your character be a visitor to the Parthaen Empire from some other created state or they may be a full-time resident of the Empire. Pick out a place that you feel pertains to your character or create your own far off kingdom, principality, empire, tribe, etc.
What can I place in my signature?
Feel free to place banners/images, quotes, and so on in your signature. Keep in mind that you must follow the rules and avoid positing lewd or racist remarks. Also remember to cite the artist you are using in your signature. They deserve credit!
How do I place an image/banner in my signature?
First you have to host the image you want in a free image host such as photobucket.com. Second, edit your signature. This is how it will look:

Every image you see here on Nocturnal Reverie was exclusively commissioned for the website and paid for by Selene. Our maps were created by Selene and Tari. Therefore, we would appreciate it if none of the pieces were removed without our permission; however, if you do feel the need to use them please put our name along with the artists. It should also be noted that we do not claim copyright to member posted images.
